If you’re in the market for a mid-size truck with a promise for big-time potential, check out the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado. Whether you prioritize power, efficiency, or a mix of both, this truck stands out for its impressive capabilities.
The standard model has a 200-horsepower base engine, 191 lb.-ft. of torque, and comes with the new Trail Boss off-road package for the Z71 and LT models. Additionally, the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado has skid plates, black exterior trim, 4-wheel disk brakes with Duralife Rotors, and up to 17 tie-downs.
If you’re looking for a rugged, versatile, and capable truck, keep reading for detailed information on the available trims.
There are almost no changes for the 2022 Chevy Colorado except for the optional dealer-installed Trail Boss package for the LT and Z71 models. The WT and ZR2 have remained the same as last year’s design.
But you can get after-market accessories such as headlights, bumpers, and front grills to customize your truck to your liking. The Z71 and ZR2 are designed for off-roading and have excellent off-road features.
2022 Chevy Colorado offers three types of engines. The standard is a 2.5l 4-cylinder engine with 200 horsepower and 191 lb.-ft. of torque, and a towing capability of 3500lb. The other options are a 3.6l DOHC V6 and a Duramax 2.8L turbo-diesel with 308hp and 108hp, respectively.
The turbo-diesel and the base 4-cylinder engines have a 6-speed automatic transmission compared to the 8-speed in the V6 engine. However, the base 4-cylinder is reported to be weak and grumpy.
The 2022 Chevy Colorado has added the Trail Boss off-road package for the LT and Z71 trims. The package includes 17-inch wheels adopted from the ZR2, skid plates, a suspension lift, and red tow hooks.
The suspension raises the truck 1-inch, and the skid plates are installed on the chassis and the front. The exterior edges turn black, and the front air dam is eliminated.
The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado is available in four trims; WT, LT, Z71, and the ZR2. You can choose between 2WD and 4WD, depending on the trim.
The Work Truck is available in a 2.5L direct-injected engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 3.6L V6 engine with 8-speed automatic transmission. It comes in three configurations—crew cab, long box; crew cab, short box, and extended cab, long box.
The base Work Truck has other impressive features, such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, a backup camera, Apple CarPlay, and Android auto.
Standout Features:
The Chevrolet Colorado LT is a mid-size truck with a distinguished style, refined cabin experience, and a modern touch. Unlike the WT, LT is available in a 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, and the touchscreen in the infotainment system is 8-inch.
It’s one of the two trims with the Trail Boss package. Other extra features in the LT trim include two more USB ports, voice commands, Wi-Fi connection capability, an auto-dimming mirror, keyless entry, and other conveniences like a rear folding seat and audio and cruise control.
Additionally, the Redline special edition comes with 18-inch wheels with black or red accents, grille and off-road assist steps, black bowtie, and spray-on Bedliner.
Standout Features:
Optional Trail Boss package: Includes an off-road suspension that lifts your truck by 1-inch, 17-inch wheels, front and middle skid plates to replace the air dam, and red tow hooks.
Wi-Fi capability: in addition to WT’s Bluetooth and smartphone, connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot and stream from the internet.
The Z71 model comes with upgraded off-road features, including all-terrain tires, an off-road suspension, and hill descent control. With a V6 engine, this off-road truck has incredible off-road capability, allowing you to hit the road confidently.
It offers comfort from sliding windows, a heated steering wheel, heated mirrors and front seats, automatic climate control, and projector headlights. The Colorado Z71 Midnight Special Edition has premium-quality all-weather floor liners, spray-on Bedliner, and Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires.
Standout Features:
Infotainment 3 Plus system: Includes an 8-inch color HD touchscreen with cloud-connected personalization, voice recognition, and voice command for compatible smartphones.
Projector-beam headlamps: Enjoy clear vision even on rough terrains with these headlamps, which have a lens that acts as a magnifying glass.
For the best off-road experience, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 has everything you need in a truck. A rugged yet comfortable trim, the ZR2 is built for extreme off-roading enthusiasts. In addition to the standard 4WD, it comes with an off-road rocker protection feature, rear jumpers, fender flares, increased track width and ground clearance, Autotrac two-speed transfer case, and red recovery hooks.
The ZR2 special edition models include the Colorado ZR2 Bison with rear recovery points, front winch provisions, AEV jumpers, five hot-stamped skid plates, and ZR2 Midnight and Dusk with blacked-out aesthetics, featuring off-road lights and sport bar.
Standout Features:
Although this model has no significant changes, it offers an exceptional experience, especially for off-road enthusiasts. Adding its tremendous capability to its striking balance between a modern truck and an old-school pickup, it’s an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade to this newest model.
